Tips for a stress-free move-in at Xenia Students!

At Xenia, we understand that moving into your new student accommodation can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re here to help you transition smoothly into your new home. Our tips will guide you as you prepare for the big day, ensuring your move-in experience is as stress-free & as smooth as possible.

Location

Settling in a new city can be difficult, but getting familiar with your surroundings is a great first step.

We understand how hard it might feel to settle in a new city. Whether you’re looking for a gym, a football pitch, or a peaceful park, familiarize yourself with what’s available for you in your new neighborhood.

Plan Your Commute, research the distance to your university and explore the options available for getting there. Understanding your route will make your daily routine easy!

Find all the essentials, locate food shops, pharmacies, and any other shops that are essential for your day-to-day life. This will help you feel more at home sooner.

Find your nearest GP and register yourself just in case anything happens during your time at university.

Learn about the available transport options in the city. Knowing how to navigate the local transit system can save you time and make exploring the city easier.

Plan your packing

Put together a list of what you need to make your studio as homely as possible. Don’t forget essentials like bedding, toiletries, kitchen supplies, and any personal touches that make a space feel more like home.

The earlier you begin your packing the less daunting the task will be and you will have more time to ensure you pack everything you need.

It can also help to plan your packing into categories. Neat packing will make unpacking your belongings easier and faster.

Remember the essentials, your ID is essential not just for moving in but for the remainder of the year.

Keep a to-do list for things like university supplies.

Here are a few recommendations that tend to slip people’s minds:

  • A few mugs – your favorite mug and a backup will be enough.
  • A good non-stick pan – if rinsed after use it is virtually effortless to clean.
  • Plants – real or artificial plants are a good way to bring some life to your room all year round.
  • Air freshener or a diffuser – small and simple, an easy way to keep your bedroom smelling fresh with very little effort.
  • Bath matt – To step wet footprints being left throughout your room and to add some decoration to your bathroom.
  • Cleaning wipes – cleaning the bathroom can seem like a daunting task so it’s helpful to have a pack of cleaning wipes to make the process easier.

Meet room mates

After the moving in date try and introduce yourself to new people, get to know who your neighbors are. Making an effort to say hello and getting to know the people you are living with will build connections and make your transition smoother.

Exploring the social spaces of your accommodation is a good way to familiarize yourself with your new home as well as meeting new people.

Once you’ve settled in you can explore your city, get used to where you’re living, check out any shops, restaurants, or bars nearby.

Moving to a new place is a significant life change. However, we are here to help you along the way – always remember it’s the start of new beginnings!
