Parents and Guardians Guide to University

Are they leaving the nest for the first time? Or are they preparing for another year? Whichever one it is, as a parent it can be worrying leaving them in their new home. We want to help answer your concerns and tell you all about how we’re making conscious efforts to support all our students. Not just from a Letting agent and housing point of view, but from a mental health front too. This is because we are partnered with Student Minds, they are a UK charity that creates confidence in young minds, creating a community for them to talk openly about their struggles. Our work alongside them involves raising awareness, money and creating content for students to interact with and be a part of. Take a short read of our Walking Challenge ‘ The 20 mile Edale Skyline Walk from Hope Valley’ blog where we raised over £980 for Student Minds. Our pledge to make an impact and be the front runners in raising awareness for student’s mental health.

All Bills Included

Nice and simple, all bills are included in their rent, so our students won’t incur any hidden costs or go over on usage for water, electricity and Wi-Fi. We also include contents insurance, so personal belongings are protected too!

Security

All our buildings have CCTS and a dedicated out of hours team are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! We understand that safety is of the utmost importance. We want you to feel happy knowing your loved one is in safe hands.

On-site Accommodation team

Each city has its own Accommodation Team who are on hand to assist with any problems or concerns. They’ll offer support throughout a Students stay with us and be their first point of contact. They also help organise social events and gatherings which helps create a friendly, comfortable and positive place to stay.

Student Ambassadors

We encourage students staying with us to get involved with us straight away. By becoming one of our Social Ambassadors! They could have the opportunity to organise the next social event and be regularly involved with social activities for the building. This is a great way for them to enjoy themselves and boost their CV, we want to provide skills for our students to take away beyond their stay with us.

Double Occupancy Studios

For any students wanting to live with a friend or partner, we don’t charge any extra for double occupancies! Lots of our rooms are available for double occupancies so contact us today to find out more.

How can you help prepare them for this move?

Our work with Student Minds will help students feel at ease, especially if they’ve never lived away from home before. Get them prepared with the right information, not just what they are going to pack for the move. Take a light read of our ‘Top Tips for Students Move In 2021’ blog. We also encourage bringing less and giving them a good excuse to visit home again. This is a great tip for easing them into their new home. Also, most little things you can pick up cheaply from a local store to save some space on the car trip, making your journey safer and less expensive.

Check out their university website for details on semester dates, so you can arrive early to unpack and be organised for the year. We provide every student with one of our welcome packs which includes a variety of different things such as: a handwritten welcome card, a Student handbook with handy tips and tricks, a city map to make navigating easier, a notepad, Xenia custom coffee cup and lanyard for their door key.

Need ideas on activities when you drop them off?

Sometimes figuring out a new city can be difficult if you’ve never been there before. We are on hand to suggest secret gems and common places to go in each city. This is a sure way for you as a parent too, to feel like you know the new city like the back of your hand. This can help students settle in but also give you ideas on where to take them when you visit. Take a read of ‘What to do now you’ve moved in?’ for helpful information.

Rooms professionally clean for new tenants, ensuring Covid cleanliness to all our building

We know you might be worried about what University looks like post pandemic, as students start to mix again. We take cleanliness in our buildings really seriously and ensure each room is prepared for new students. We also encourage each student to do their bit in keeping the building clean and to take their rubbish out to our secure rubbish disposal areas. We understand that life can get busy and cleaning chores are the last thing anyone wants to do, that’s why we say, little and often works best. Don’t let it build up and take things out whenever you pass the bins. We carry out routine checks on each room to ensure standards are being met for the whole building, so they can enjoy student life feeling like they’ve never left the comfort of their own home.
